An insight into Something Beautiful...

Through our individual facebook pages we asked friends and family to email us photographs of things they considered to be ‘something beautiful’. The idea behind this was to identify and collect a large range of ‘beautiful’ images and to see if there were any consistencies between them.

We have been really pleased with the number of people who have responded to us – often sending more than just one image (because they couldn’t pick just one!). Although some of the photos sent in were typically aesthetically beautiful (such as a sunset) many were much more personal and for whatever reason had sentimental value to the individual.  What was so interesting about doing this is the difference in images and the way people have responded. Some have just send one image, some have send a few, some have given information such as time, date and place and others have written captions or explained in detail why they have selected the photograph they have. The images displayed a range of moments, from - time spent away or travelling, wedding photos, art work and uni projects, best friends, people laughing, mother nature as well as random things like a heart spray painted on to a stone wall. The majority of pictures sent in were taken by the individual and what was interesting about this is that they were actually keen and willing to share their 'something beautiful'.

What they all have in common more strongly, however, is that they all represent a moment in time. Whether it’s an object, person or experience all the photos capture a specific moment in time that the individual believes is ‘something beautiful’ to them.

This has now influenced our direction of the magazine and we have decided that our first issue of Something Beautiful magazine will be centered around the theme of ‘Time.’

Here is a selection of my personal favourite images from the many we have received.
